Councillor Ayoub Khan said, "Birmingham City Council's grit teams have done a first class job keeping the main routes open. But some side roads will inevitably be hazardous with the severe temperatures causing ice.

"If you are going to drive, firstly please ask yourself if your journey is absolutely necessary. If you must travel, check your tyre pressure, water levels, oil levels and do not set off until your windows are completely clear.

"Also, please do check on elderly or other vulnerable neighbours during this cold snap to ensure they are safe, well-stocked with food and have enough heat in their homes."
