Good Progress in Cutting Birmingham's Carbon Emissions

Good progress has been made in cutting Birmingham's carbon emissions during the past year. A total of 120,745 tonnes of CO2 recorded savings were made in the 2009/10 financial year, up from recorded savings of 103,039 tonnes in 2008/9. With current energy prices, the Carbon Trust estimates that saving a tonne of CO2 equates to a cost saving of £100, so last years carbon emission cuts have saved Birmingham's residents, businesses, voluntary and public sector organisations around £12 million.

Pledges for fairness win Liz Lynne's support for historic coalition deal

An average of five polls conducted immediately after the Sky TV Leaders Election debate on Thursday night put Nick Clegg as the winner, with all instant polls showing him ahead of Gordon Brown. After the Foreign Affairs-led debate from Bristol dominated by issues like Iraq, immigration and climate change, Nick Clegg won 3 of the 5 polls on the night, building on his position after the first debate.

Victory Vince: Cable Wins Channel 4 Chancellors Debate

Green Housing Revolution for Birmingham

A Green New Deal that could eventually see all homes in Birmingham retrofitted with energy efficient improvements is being launched. Initially a pilot project within Aston, Lozells, Newtown and Northfield, up to 25,000 homeowners and 1000 businesses will be offered the chance for significant energy improvements to their properties. As well as saving homeowners money and cutting carbon emissions, the pilot project will also create or protect 111 jobs and 170 apprenticeships.
